WHY HOW WHAT
The World Stage
We live in a turbulent era of transition
and many of us are paralysed by the complexity of the problems we face. Others are fearful or in rage. In our bodies these reactions translate into fight, flight or freeze.
This is why conflicts are on the rise and so are drugs and other addictions. Many of us are very risk aversive, waiting for others to take decisions. We cling to paradigms that do not serve us. Above all scarcity or the 'zero sum game'. We have to envision abundance. And we can, if we realise that we are not only primates with an inequity aversion but also co-creators.
A new story will create a new play on the world stage. It takes vision, courage and action. Or: head, heart and hands.
VISION Strategy Impact
Most strategies are limited to reacting to the competition. They allow for incremental innovation instead of breakthrough ideas. This is because there is no vision. Step one is to dare to dream big.
Step two is to picture the details of the vision with as many as possible stakeholders involved: citizens, scientists, entrepreneurs, government officials, journalists. Together you travel further.
Let's take The World Bank's vision of 'a world free of poverty on a livable planet' as a case here. It is a bold vision, but could involve more of its stakeholders and it could be more focused on desired outcomes instead of problems. You don't want to fix something that is broken, you want to build truly regenerative chains.
I.e.: consider that the earth receives 175.000 Terawatt from the sun continuously. In the coming decades we will tap into this energy without depending on rare earths, child labour or pipelines.
Step three is to reverse engineer: what actions does it take to reach your goal? This is about branding (who do you want to be?), not marketing (how can you maximise profit). Navigating complexity involves bumpy roads, unexpected turns and resolve.
Head - hart - hands.
In these turbulent times of transition from the industrial era into something we do not yet have a name for, we realize that everything is somehow connected.
Thinking is only one aspect; our emotions and our bodies too are involved. We are made up of DNA and at the same time spiritual beings. Even if we do not exactly understand how.
Fifteen years ago I became a body Rebalancer beside my work as a diplomat. Where the latter's role is about communicating the interests of peoples, a rebalancer listens carefully to what a client's body has to say. What emotions did it store? What are the underlying needs? And beliefs? Who are we?
When becoming mother, I wrote the book 'Pregnancy, birth and beyond' ('Welkom op Aarde'), a practical yet also philosophical guide on passing on life. The book brings together wisdom of scientists, prophets and midwives alike.
The mystery of life is about being and becoming. Valuing creation and creating value.
